Most people with Type 2 diabetes are told to watch their diet, take their medication, and come back in six months. But diabetes is not just about blood sugar. It is a complex metabolic condition with identifiable root causes that can be addressed directly.

As a Private Specialist GP with 18 years of clinical experience, I take the time to understand what is driving your condition and work with you on a personalised plan — whether you have just received a diagnosis, have been managing Type 2 diabetes for years, or have been told you are at risk.

If you are wondering about your Type 2 diabetes risk factors, or whether Type 2 diabetes can be reversed, this consultation is a good place to start. For general background, the NHS overview of Type 2 diabetes is also a useful reference.

This service is for Type 2 diabetes and metabolic health only. If you have Type 1 diabetes, I would recommend consulting your specialist diabetes team.

A note on what to expect: I cannot promise remission from Type 2 diabetes; no ethical clinician can. What I can promise is a thorough, evidence-based plan built around your specific biology and circumstances, giving you the best realistic chance of improving your metabolic health.

Why Type 2 Diabetes Develops

Type 2 diabetes rarely has a single cause. These are the root factors I look at in every consultation — understanding the metabolic health continuum helps explain why symptoms like early Type 2 diabetes signs often go unnoticed.

Targeted blood tests recommended where needed — not a blanket panel, but what is clinically relevant for you

A personalised management plan including dietary guidance, lifestyle adjustments, and medication review where appropriate

Clear written summary sent to you and, with your consent, to your NHS GP

Ongoing support through follow-up appointments as your plan progresses

Common Questions

Things patients often ask before booking.

1

Do I need a formal diabetes diagnosis to book?

No. You do not need a formal diagnosis. Many patients come to me after being told they are prediabetic, have a raised HbA1c, or have a strong family history of Type 2 diabetes. Early intervention is often where the most meaningful difference can be made.

2

Can you help if I am already on Metformin or other diabetes medication?

Yes. Many of my patients are already on medication and want to understand more about their condition, optimise their management, or explore whether lifestyle changes could reduce their reliance on medication over time. I will always work alongside your NHS GP, not instead of them.

3

Is this service suitable for Type 1 diabetes?

No. This service is specifically for Type 2 diabetes and metabolic health conditions such as insulin resistance, prediabetes, and metabolic syndrome. If you have Type 1 diabetes, I would recommend continuing with your specialist diabetes team who are best placed to support you.

4

What is the difference between Type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance?

Insulin resistance is often the precursor to Type 2 diabetes. When your cells stop responding efficiently to insulin, your pancreas produces more to compensate. Over time, if this is not addressed, blood glucose levels rise and Type 2 diabetes can develop. Many people have significant insulin resistance for years before a diagnosis is made.

5

Will you order blood tests for me?

Yes, where clinically appropriate. I can recommend targeted private blood tests based on what your history reveals during our consultation. I will not order unnecessary panels, but I will ensure we have the information needed to build an accurate picture of your metabolic health. I can also review any recent NHS blood results you already have.

6

Can Type 2 diabetes be reversed?

For some people, significant lifestyle and dietary changes can lead to remission of Type 2 diabetes, meaning blood glucose returns to a normal range without medication. This is more achievable earlier in the condition and depends on individual factors. I will always give you an honest assessment of what is realistic for you specifically.

7

What happens after my consultation?

You will receive a written summary of our consultation, your personalised management plan, and any test recommendations. With your consent, I will also write to your NHS GP to keep them informed. You are welcome to book a follow-up appointment to review your progress and adjust your plan as things develop.

8

How is this different from seeing my NHS GP?

Your NHS GP plays a vital role in your overall care and I always work in partnership with them. What I offer is additional time, depth, and specialist focus. A standard NHS appointment rarely allows for a thorough exploration of root causes, lifestyle factors, and personalised planning. A 60-minute initial consultation gives us the space to do this properly.
